Logan, located at the south end of the Cache Valley against the Wasatch Range and the dramatic Wellsville Mountains to the west, is an attractive Western-style college town, well known for its scenic beauty and recreation. It is home to Utah State University and a center of Mormon culture and history. The economic base extends well beyond the university; a diverse set of businesses have discovered the area’s pleasant surroundings, good labor force, and low operating costs. Industries include high tech, biomedical research, food processing, printing and call centers with names like Pepperidge Farms, Moore Business Forms, Herff-Jones (yearbooks) Convergys and Tyco present.

The downtown area is attractive and walkable with wide streets and independently owned businesses, spreading mostly east into the hills with traditional homes, trees, and several parks. Cost of living is reasonable for the type of area and crime rates are extremely low, but geography makes Ogden and especially Salt Lake City to the south a fairly long trip at 75 miles across a mountain pass and may be difficult at times in winter.

The Cache Valley is flat and dry and mostly grassland or agricultural. Logan is tucked into the south end of the valley with wooded mountains rising on three sides and especially to the south. The climate is generally dry and pleasant with lots of sun, warm days and cool evenings in summer, with infrequent rain arriving mostly as thundershowers. Winter is mostly dry and fairly mild with a few blasts of rigorous weather each year, bringing snow, a few below-zero days, and a dusting to a moderate accumulation of snow.
